As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, my God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God? My tears have been my food day and night, while people say to me all day long, “Where is your God?” (Psalm 42:1-3 NIV).
Craving is a great or eager desire; yearning… The writer of this psalm, perhaps one of this Levitical family of singers accompanying David in exile, mourns his absence from the sanctuary and presence of God. The presence of the Lord is a satisfying experience. Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. (Psalms 16:11 KJV).
With life’s struggles and turmoil, it is absolutely necessary to seek the presence of The Lord. With a world full of carnality and superficial desires, the presence of the Lord is refreshing. When you seek God with your whole being there is a peace that surpasses all understanding that overtakes you. Trouble can be all around but the presence of God gives you a stillness in heart knowing that God has you covered. Living without God’s presence is like a fish on dry land gasping for water. You can only thrive in the realm where you were created in. Cows cannot live in water because God created them on dry land. Fish were created in the water and so in water is where they are perfected. Man was created from the dust of the earth but God breathed into him the breath of life and man became a living soul.
Without God, man is spiritually suffocating. Prayer is the CPR for man’s survival. Prayer invokes the presence of God in your life. When your soul longs for God it’s like a craving or an appetite. When you crave something, nothing else satisfies you until you get what you are longing for.
Most of the time a spiritual craving for God is not identified by most. When you are sometimes bored or feeling empty or low in spirit, or unfulfilled in life, that’s your spirit craving for its God. When we are not aware of our spiritual appetites or cravings we tend to feed our flesh with other things looking to fulfill a spiritual void with natural resources. Only God can satisfy you completely.
Are you feeling incomplete when you should be happy but you are not? Are you feeling like something is missing in your life? Most likely it’s your inner spirit that’s craving for its God. Pray and the fullness of joy will come with the presence of The Lord.
